My Location: Your Current Coordinates Right Now
Find your current latitude, longitude, altitude when available, and the accuracy radius reported by your device. Coordinates remain in this browser tab and are not sent to an Online Compass server.

How this finds your location
Your browser uses navigator.geolocation to ask the device for a position. The device may combine GPS satellites, nearby Wi-Fi networks, mobile towers, and other system signals. The browser controls the permission prompt, and this page receives coordinates only after you approve access.
The result updates while the page remains open. Online Compass displays the values in decimal degrees and degrees, minutes, and seconds (DMS). You can also enter coordinates manually when location services are unavailable or when you want to inspect another place.
The method differs from an IP-based location lookup. An IP address often identifies a broad network area or the location of an internet provider. Device location services can provide a much smaller accuracy radius when a good GPS or Wi-Fi fix is available.
- 1
Allow location access
Select Use my location and approve the browser request. The page cannot read a position before you choose to share it.
- 2
Wait for the fix
A phone may refine its first estimate for several seconds. Outdoors usually gives GPS a clearer view of satellites.
- 3
Read the result
Use decimal coordinates for maps and DMS coordinates for formats that require degrees, minutes, and seconds.
Latitude, longitude and accuracy explained
Latitude measures position north or south of the equator from −90° to 90°. Longitude measures position east or west of the prime meridian from −180° to 180°. A pair such as 51.507400, −0.127800 identifies a point in decimal degrees. DMS writes the same position with degrees, minutes, and seconds.
The accuracy radius is a device estimate in metres. An accuracy of ±20 m means the device expects the horizontal position to fall within a circle of roughly that radius. It is not a guarantee. Buildings, tree cover, poor satellite geometry, disabled high-accuracy settings, and an indoor position can widen the radius or shift the result.
Altitude is shown only when the browser supplies it. Phones often report altitude less consistently than horizontal position, and some devices return no altitude at all. The page does not infer a street address or postal code because doing so would require sending coordinates to a reverse-geocoding service. See the guide to finding GPS coordinates for formats and accuracy checks.
Turning on location services
If the browser refuses the request, check that location services are enabled for the device and that the browser has permission for this site. A previously denied choice may need to be changed from the padlock or site-settings control beside the address bar.
Location access requires HTTPS on normal websites. A laptop without GPS can still return a position from Wi-Fi or the operating system, although the radius may be larger. If the device cannot produce a location, use manual coordinates or find them in a mapping service you trust.
Once you have coordinates, use the magnetic declination calculator to compare magnetic and true north, or open the sun compass to calculate the sun and moon bearings for that location.
Privacy: what this page does and does not store
Your coordinates are processed in the page and held in temporary React state. Online Compass has no account or location database, and the location tool does not send coordinates to the site owner. Closing or reloading the tab clears the displayed position.
The site does load services described on the privacy page, including Google Tag Manager for site measurement. The location tool does not place your coordinates in analytics events, URLs, or page titles. Browser and operating-system permission records may remain on your device until you change them.
Frequently asked questions
Why is my location slightly off?
Your device reports an estimated position and accuracy radius. Buildings, indoor use, weak satellite visibility, Wi-Fi data, and device settings can shift the result.
Does this work without GPS?
It can. Browsers may obtain a position from Wi-Fi, mobile networks, or operating-system location services, though the result can be less precise than a good outdoor GPS fix.
Is my location shared with anyone?
The coordinates are displayed and processed in your browser and are not sent to an Online Compass server. See the privacy page for the site's analytics and other service details.
Why won't my browser share my location?
Location services may be off, permission may have been denied, or the device may be unable to produce a fix. Check the browser's site permissions and your operating-system location settings.
